April 24th: Boyd and Hayley

May 8th: Rebecca and Wes
May 20something: Nikki and fiance
June 26th: Ashley and Doug
July 24th?: Sydney and Mitch
That's 7 couples in the next five months! Strange, considering that I haven't even had this many friends get married in the last two years! Anyway.
The point is that with Ashley and Hayley there has been a lot of wedding stuff going on. I've been dress shopping with both (Hayley bought a dress this week; Ashley's tried a couple) and it's been a ton of fun... and a lot of waiting between dresses. I think that in the future I'll bring a book or something. Do my homework. Chat up the men waiting on their fiances in the stores... But today I went to the Bridal Fair with Ashley. We got there ten minutes before it opened and had a great time! I registered as a bride to get all the free stuff. I tried lots of food (I ate the Goodwood sample 4 times), lied to a ton of people (my fiance's name is Jared, we're getting married in August, he's majoring in Business Management, we got engaged on Sunday so there's no ring yet) and asked a ton of awkward questions (Would you photograph me in the cemetery by the Manti temple?, Can I try two cake samples?, Do you do pap smears even if a woman hasn't had intercourse yet?, How many calories does this cupcake have compared to a slice of cake?).
At noon we ran into Boyd and Hayley. Hayley desired to win a vaccuum from the cake eating competition but didn't think she would be able to eat anything. Which left me and Boyd. So posing as Boyd's fiance we got picked to participate in the competition and found out we had to eat the cake with our hands behind our backs. "DO NOT GET YOUR MOUTH ANYWHERE NEAR MINE!" I yelled, as the other couples stared strangely at us. Then the couple next to us eyed Boyd and I up and down. The guy looked at the girl and with wide eyes told her that she needed to eat fast because they had some serious competition. The competition started and I took the first bite off of the top tier of the cake. I had a lot of cake in my mouth and tried my best to swallow it, as I laughed over how much Boyd was consuming! He started glaring at me and telling me to get into the cake. So I leaned over and took another huge bite. There was cake all over my face and up my nose. I was laughing so hard with cake in my mouth that I couldn't breathe. After two bites from me and a ton from Boyd, the second layer was long gone. I took a third bite, apparently giving Boyd just enough time to swallow the entire layer he had in his mouth. The only cake left on the plate was smashed. All the other couples had two tiers left. The announcer guy was going crazy. He was in love with Boyd and was watching and commenting on his eating capabilities the entire time. We came in first place. Third place got the vaccuum. We traded them our free wedding cake. Hayley was thrilled. I hugged Boyd and yelled, "Honey, we won!". The announcer asked us when we were getting married: "April 24th!" I screamed. Best thing ever. The announcer told Boyd how fascinated he had been with his eating capabilities. Apparently he thought that it was as if "the jaws of hell had opened up" to consume the cake. Boyd remarked that he hadn't wanted to clear his nasal passage because he had so much cake in it that he didn't want to be disqualified. When I'm engaged, Boyd and I are doing it again.
After this Ashley and I got the rest of our drawing cards signed. Then Boyd, Hayley and I drove out to Orem to tour a reception venue... for the sole purpose of the free catered lunch they had until 4. Sandwiches, crepes, salad, fondue fountain... yum. Then we headed back to the Bridal Fair for the 4:45pm grand prize drawing. We met up with Ashely, but unfortunately, neither of us won. But I left this afternoon feeling like a champ.
Gearing for the start
Here you can see the cake we needed to eat
Compare our cake with the couple next to us. The announcer was worried so he tried to get Boyd to drink some water.
The winning champions!
