I currently get paid to hang out, watch tv, read, play video games and go to the library. Work doesn't really feel like work, except that I do these things with people I normally wouldn't do them with.
There's T, who is 15. He walks with his head almost parallel to the ground. He reminds me a lot of my little brother, Jacob. He's always talking to me and half the time I can't understand him and he always asks me if I want to watch a movie or play a game with him. Just like Jacob would do. It's hard to understand what he's saying and it's almost like learning a new language or accent. Sometimes I'm not sure if he's being friendly or flirty.
Then there's G, who is almost 18. He is a tough guy. The first day I was at the house I was terrified of him, as I was pretty sure that if he wanted to he could knock me out pretty fast. He has to act like he's macho all the time. "Don't do that or I'll punch you/cut you/beat you up," is commonly heard around him. But every once in awhile I see his tender side, when he agrees to play a video game with T that is not his favorite.
So far all the weird things I've seen while at work have been as a result of A, who is 20. A wants to get a job so badly at a place like Denny's. He likes reading and we went to the library together where he wanted to check out like, 20 books. He settled for one fiction book and two books about bowling, as he recently joined a bowling league. He apologized that sometimes it's hard for me to understand what he's trying to say. When he and T bring up their language skills it breaks my heart. I don't want to agree with them but they know that people struggle to understand them. A likes Justin Bieber, a lot. As in, every inch of his bedroom walls is covered in Justin Bieber pictures and he likes to sing karaoke to Justin Bieber all the time. He's really big on cooking and often cooks legit things, like hamburgers or crab. Yes, crab. But the house doesn't own a crab cracker, so he used his teeth. It was unlike anything I'd ever seen before. I don't even know anyone that cooks crab. It doesn't exactly fit into any grocery budget I've heard of.
In other news, it rained a bit last week. The rain makes me desperate for fall, when I can drink lemon mint herbal tea, snuggle up in my favorite old person sweater, see the leaves fall and dampen from the rain while I cook something with butternut squash or pumpkin. Fall is my favorite season.
Welcome, Minnie!!
