New Project

Projects help me through life.  Without any real measurements of success in my life right now and nothing to really look forward to, projects help me reach goals and feel better about myself.

I found my next project.

For a year I'm not going to read a single book written by a male author.  Except for scriptures, I guess.  Maybe.

In high school my favorite English teacher turned rocker made a list of all the authors we had read so far in high school.  It was like, all but one was male.  And all but one was white.  And that was depressing to me as a woman sitting in a class full of ethnic people.  Recently I've read a few books that have portrayed women like crap.  And I didn't like it, not one bit.  One was written by a woman.  But in general, I've read a lot of books by men that haven't made me feel good about myself as I walked away.  Now, had I read Twilight I would be saying the same thing about female authors.  But I haven't.

So, for one whole year, I'm going a year without men.

I would say it was only in reading, but let's be real, this current drought has dried me out to a desert, not that it was ever a rainforest to begin with.  So while I am intentionally going without male authors, I will probably go without male suitors as well.  And they're the only gender of suitors I'm interested in.  I'm still going to be stuck with privileged comments by douchy Priesthood holders.  That'll be enough to keep me feeling bad about myself for years to come.

Although it won't start for a few more months.  To give me enough time to read a few books by President Obama and also Jack Kerouac's On The Road.
