Back home in Oxnard we have this landmark:
It's kind of a gem and also kind of sketch. They have the best produce deals around and caters to the... ethnic customer, meaning that they have just about whatever it is that I could want. But there is always some creeper guy standing outside dressed like a cholo that makes me want to RUN to the car, even when I'm with my mom. And the fish section is less than desirable, with whole huge bins full of fish on ice in the middle of the aisle for anyone to touch. It's a fly pit.
Here in Utah we have Buy Low. It's not as Mexican as Amar by a long shot. But their Mexican candy section is pretty decent and they have the best produce deals ever (partially because it's almost rotten)! Today as I was looking at some store ads over lunch I saw that they had 2 pounds of nectarines for one dollar. Somehow stating that out loud convinced Selina that we had to go to Buy Low.
So we did. And I got a cucumber, four pounds of red potatoes, two pounds of strawberries, three carrots, four grapefruits, half a dozen nectarines, and a loaf of french bread for $7. For real? Why don't I shop there every week?
Maybe I will in the fall, when Marie, Selina and I move into our new place. That's right, we're moving! And Selina's coming with us! For the first time in history Marie and I will have a previous roommate move with us. I'd like to state that this is not for lack of trying. That looks... more pathetic. What I mean is that we've had a significant portion of roommates get married/go on study abroad after living with us. And then there was Heather. But wait until you see our couches! And can I brag for just a split second that Marie and I are sharing a room with internet and cable on a Fall/Winter contract for $220 a month? We're pretty happy about the whole thing.
Welcome, Minnie!!
