The Wedding Update (Because Who Doesn't Want to Know?)

Congratulations!  You know more about my mom getting married than my brothers do!  Because you are aware of it.

After the awkward engagement over dinner I heard almost nothing from my mom.  What I did hear was that they wanted to get married sometime in January and they hoped all of her children would be supportive.  I freaked out and explained that I didn't understand why they had to move so fast.  I also told her that I was feeling like if I didn't agree with her quick marriage then I just wasn't in her life picture.  I maybe expressed these ideas in a lengthy email.

She responded that she had been in a small Idaho farm town without reception and that was the reason for the low amount of communication.  We got together on Wednesday to talk things over.

THE ENGAGEMENT WAS STAGED.

What was that?

They were already engaged.  But my mom figured it wouldn't go over so well if she introduced JG to me as her fiance.  So she thought I'd be more accepting if I were a part of the engagement and they staged it.  They had planned for my mom to go to the bathroom long enough that JG could talk to me and clue me in to the event taking place.  When she got back from the bathroom JG told her that he didn't get a chance to talk to me and my mom thought it should probably not happen but before she knew it there was the ring!  And because it wasn't exactly a proposal worthy of a "YES!" she said she'd think about it.  Awkward all around.

Good news?  They're not getting married in January.  Which makes me feel a lot better about it.

Also, she flat out told me she knew I was avoiding the dinner when I scheduled it for an hour long and was thirty minutes late and brought Rochelle.  It never ceases to amaze me how she understands my devious ways.

My mom and I talked a lot on Wednesday.  She told me that she was proud of me for sending her an email to tell her about how I felt, because it meant I was open to talking and not shutting her out.  It was one of my more adult moves.

Also JG's dad is a creep.  Like a big time creep.  Like he should be in jail.  And maybe in Chrysalis.  Except maybe not because then he would take advantage of my boys, and no one touches my boys.
